The massive destruction caused by Typhoon Morakot has led to hundreds of deaths in Taiwan with several more still missing. Despite the recent deaths of her uncle and brother-in-law who died from the ravages of the disaster and a heart attack respectively three days ago, A-mei refused to be beaten, picked herself up and continued her efforts to rally for more public support and donations for relief funds.
According to Taiwanese media reports, after A-mei ended her work in Shanghai and returned to Taiwan, she immediately immersed herself with the relief work. She cancelled all other work and decided to personally visit a village in Taidong to cook for the victims there, providing them with warmth and love.
She choked on tears as she spoke about the loss of her loved ones. A-mei struggled to keep her emotions in-check and hoped for everyone to appreciate and love themselves. “Those alive must live on properly. Let the dead people leave in peace.”
A-mei believes that it is important to be hardworking and live life to the fullest so as to not leave regrets for those who have passed on. “There are a lot of unexplainable matters in life. You can be sad, pained, and heartbroken but you must not always carry such emotions.”
