Speaking of Meisa Kuroki …

According to multiple news reports, and many media outlets, actress Erica Sawajiri has lost the leading lady role in a 2010 blockbuster movie called Space Battleship Yamamoto. Sawajiri, 23, had originally beaten out Meisa Kuroki, 21, and other actresses for this role that would mark her comeback as an actress.
This film which was to have begun shooting next month, and was tentatively scheduled for release in December 2010, was rumored to be a very expensive production with an projected budget of around 1 billion JY.
Neither Ms Sawajiri’s agency, Stardust Promotions, nor any of the movie’s connections have confirmed the specific reason for dropping her from the film. “Breach of contract” has been mentioned in some reports, but at this time, must be considered speculation.

Needless to say, Meisa Kuroki will be thrilled to grab the co-star role opposite Takuya Kimura in this live action film.

Also worth mentioning is that I’m quite pleased to bring Meisa to this blog again.

A budget of a billion dollars? WOW.
a billion yen.that’s maybe around 11 million usd?
@you-x
Hello you-x : no not a billion dollars – a billion Japanese yen!
@muackster
Hi Muackster –
Yeah those numbers are big – based on today’s conversion rates 1 Billion JY =
11,160,788.59 US $.
That’s not a huge budget for a US Film – but I think for a Japanese film it is a great deal of money.
Thanks for comment.

Oh, jeez! Thank you everyone. I totally read too fast.
aka Star Blazers (US title) One of the greatest anime series of all time!!!
I don’t know if the name is changed just for this live action movie, but the series is called Space Battleship Yamato which I am a huge fan of. As for the budget, I would need another Japanese movie with the same budget to compare it to.
As for Meisa, she is a beauty. Thanks for bringing her back.
‘Yamato’ ? As in the WW2 super Battleship ‘Yamato’ ? I wonder if it will have its’ own Yaukuni Shrine in it ?
Or even a Yasukuni Shrine ? :-)
Possibly the WWII battleship was the inspiration for the original series broadcast back in the 70′s. But I can’t say with any certainty.
Since this new live-action feature is an update rather than a remake of the series, it’s not surprising that they would again name the ship Yamato. For continuity, for recognition, and for other reasons unknown to me and you.
